Member types
We have three classes of individual membership with sub-classes so there is an individual membership category to suit everyone:

Membership benefits
By becoming a Member of Royal Society Te Apārangi, not only do you help the work we do supporting New Zealanders to explore, discover and share knowledge, you also get a range of benefits:
- Access to the online Members portal
- Discount subscription rates to research journals published by Royal Society Te Apārangi
- Invitations to regional events in your area
- Invitations and early notification of lectures and other events and presentations
- Links to over 100 world research institutions and organisations through Research Academies worldwide
- Member-only e-newsletters
- Free or discounted tickets (at least 15% discount) for our events
- Other occasional discounts and special offers (for example, discount offers on books from selected New Zealand publishers
Additional benefits for Associate Members
In addition to the benefits listed above, Associate Members (including those with Retired status) are entitled to:
- Vote to elect Royal Society Te Apārangi of New Zealand Councillors
- Participate in a discipline-based Electoral College of Royal Society Te Apārangi
- Receive a copy of the Society’s Annual Review, providing a snapshot of Society activities over the preceding year
Additional benefits for Professional Members
In addition to the benefits listed above for all Members and Associate Members, all Professional Members (including those with Retired or Early Career Researcher status) receive the following additional benefits:
- May use the post-nominal initials MRSNZ
- Will receive a lapel pin (membership badge) on joining
- Receive notification of papers on issues of public interest
- May be considered to participate on expert panels on issues of public interest
- Are eligible for a 25% discount (in place of the standard 15% discount, where offered) on tickets for the Society’s events
Additional benefits for Professional Members – Early Career Researcher
In addition to the benefits listed above, Professional Members with Early Career Researcher status are entitled to:
- Participate in the Early Career Researcher (ECR) Forum
