Jane has eight years of primary school teaching experience, mostly in New Zealand and also in American Samoa.  She enjoys teaching a diverse range of ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds.  Jane is committed to lifelong learning and recently completed her Master's in Teaching Practice with the University of Auckland.  One of her papers, ‘Making a Difference - Science, ' helped her develop her knowledge of science and classroom practice.  By participating in the Science Teaching Leadership Programme (STLP), she will add to her knowledge and support her peers with their science learning.  Jane believes building good relationships with her students is key to creating a learning environment where students can take risks. She enjoys teaching science, where students can participate in hands-on learning that fosters curiosity and wonder.  Jane believes science provides students with essential knowledge for their everyday life and skills for their future.

Jane’s placement is with the Riddet Institute Centre of Research Excellence, leading research into advanced food science.  The Riddet Institute guides and supports food science research throughout New Zealand with universities and private companies.  Some of Jane’s objectives during the placement are to connect with scientists to see how the Nature of Science and capabilities are used daily.
