Apply for the Frontiers Planet Prize

The Frontiers Planet Prize aims to incentivise scientists and researchers to find innovative solutions to the global environmental crisis.

In 2023, Dr Rebecca Gladstone-Gallagher was selected to represent Aotearoa New Zealand in this international competition. Her research team has proposed new ways to manage the environment by coordinating efforts across land, water, and sea ecosystems.

The Royal Society Te Apārangi is accepting applications for the Frontiers Planet Prize until 1 November 2024. The Society’s Fellows will choose the top three research articles from Aotearoa New Zealand. From these, the international jury for the Frontiers Prize will select a National Champion. The Champions from all competing countries will travel to Switzerland to present and discuss their research.

The international jury will then select three researchers, who will each receive 1 million Swiss francs (approximately NZ $1.9 million).

If you have just published research that has the potential to enable humans to live sustainably within our planetary boundaries, apply to be the 2024 National Champion!
