Fraudulent website

We have become aware of a fraudulent website, representing the “Royal Academy of Sciences New Zealand” and using the acronym RSNZ. The “Royal Academy of Sciences New Zealand” is not registered in this country.

The fake site is quite sophisticated; it includes some content drawn from our own website, alongside additional material, presumably drawn from other sources. We suspect that this website represents a scam, set up for the purpose of obtaining personal or financial information.

Our official website domain is royalsociety.org.nz and any emails from our organisation will be from the same domain name, i.e. name@royalsociety.org.nz.

The following are our social media accounts:

  • Facebook: Royal Society Te Apārangi
  • Twitter: @royalsocietynz
  • BlueSky: @royalsocietynz
  • LinkedIn: Royal Society Te Apārangi
  • Instagram: @royalsocietynz
  • YouTube: RoyalSocietyNZ

We have reported this phishing site to all the relevant authorities, and will attempt to have it taken down as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please do not search for the fake site, or click on any links there; especially, do not enter any information into the site, or follow its instructions to log in, register, or donate.  Do not respond to any emails purporting to be from the Society which are not from our domain name @royalsociety.org.nz.

If you have already been affected by this scam, please report immediately to CERT NZ at www.cert.govt.nz/individuals/report-an-issue/.

Please email enquiries@royalsociety.org.nz if you have any other questions or concerns.
