Read about the Rotorua Branch of the Royal Society Te Apārangi
Formed: 1952
Known founding members: Jim Healy and Don Stafford
The Rotorua Branch began with two mandates: establishing a museum, and starting a library. The result was the Rotorua Musuem, where the the branch’s early influence is seen in the exhibits on pioneering housing and clothing, and volcanology.
Today, the branch continues its outreach to the general public with regular talks and the Bay of Plenty School Science Fair, as well as joint meetings with organisations including the Rotorua Astronomical Society, Rotorua Forest and Bird, and Rotorua Botanical Society.
