Diversity Statement
Royal Society Te Apārangi is committed to providing an inclusive and diverse environment throughout the organisation, and in all its processes and activities.
Diversity is defined as a variety of characteristics that make individuals unique. It can include (but is not limited to) gender, ethnic background, employment context, culture, and education.
Different backgrounds, communication styles, life-skills, and interpersonal skills are valuable in building diverse teams, panels, and committees.
The Council and Chief Executive of the Society recognise the value of the viewpoints and perspectives offered by people of different backgrounds, ages, experiences, ethnicities, and genders to promote informed decision-making, innovation, and better outcomes for our stakeholders.
The Society will focus on achieving diversity in all its activities, particularly in panels and committees tasked with assessment of candidates for funding and awards, and in equal opportunities for all employees of the Society, and in ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and with respect.
The Society will monitor progress through annual reporting of key metrics and continuous improvement of performance.
