Flavonoid production arose 500 million years ago to enable plants to screen UVB-light and colonise the land. They are also common pigments in our flowers and fruit. Kevin discusses key discoveries on flavonoid biology both in relation to plant adaptations to their environment and generating new plant cultivars.
