How Companions are awarded

Potential Companions are nominated by at least two (and up to five) nominators for people that meet the criteria. Nominations are considered by the Academy Executive Committee who make recommendations to Royal Society Te Apārangi about who should receive the award of Companion.

Further information is available below on the criteria for receiving a Companion (CRSNZ) award, the nomination process and the consideration process.

Note: Individuals cannot apply to become Companions (or Fellows); these are honours that must be awarded. If you’re interested in becoming involved with the Society, we encourage you to learn about applying to become a Member of the Society, find information on becoming a Member here

The 2024 round is now open. The closing date for nominations is 30 April 2024.
