Video: Best and boldest ideas – 30 years of the Marsden Fund, a celebration and panel discussion

A video recording is now available from our event that celebrated 30 years of the Marsden Fund at Parliament, hosted by Hon Judith Collins KC MP, Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, held on 7 August 2024.

As well as reflecting on the Marsden Fund, Minister Collins also spoke about reforms to regulate gene technology.

Rt Hon Simon Upton FRSNZ, Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, spoke about setting up the fund for excellent research in the mid-1990s and said “it remains the best thing I've ever done in public life”.

The evening also included a panel discussion led by Professor Emily Parker FRSNZ with current and former members of the Marsden Fund Council: Professor Dame Juliet Gerrard FRSNZ, Professor Richard Newcomb and Professor Chellie Spiller. They shared their favourite Marsden projects that encapsulate the unique value of the fund and spoke about their ambitions for the fund's future.
