About the programme:
The University of Sydney hosts the inspiring Professor Harry Messel International Science School every two years. The 44th ISS programme will be held from Sunday 6 July to Saturday 19 July 2025.
Professor Harry Messel International Science School (ISS) brings together over 100 students from across the globe to participate in an intensive two-week programme to make connections with other young leaders, engage in hands-on activities and listen to inspiring kōrero from world-leading scholars.
ISS2025 is an exciting opportunity for three year 12 to 13 New Zealand students to participate in this free programme in Sydney, Australia. A special shout out to ISS alumni who are kindly funding the flights for ISS2025.
Pārongo matua | Key information:
- There are three spaces available for New Zealand students
- All costs, including all travel, food and activities are covered
- The programme is well-staffed and supported by International Science School.
Te paearu whakauru | Eligibility criteria:
- You are a New Zealand citizen or have permanent New Zealand residency
- You are in year 12 or 13
- You have a genuine interest and aptitude in science with a strong academic record
- You're considering pursuing studies and/or a career in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) and related fields.

Te mahere ako | The programme
The programme will consist of:
- Interactive activities to further your skills and knowledge in STEAM
- A lecture series from world-renowned scientists and researchers to be inspired and to better understand the world of STEAM
- Special events to encourage and reward problem-solving and teamwork by competing in challenges, and gain advice on how to navigate your pathway in STEAM through panel discussions
- Social events to make friends with other like-minded rangatahi from across the globe, explore Sydney and celebrate diverse cultures.
