Enhancing evidence-based decision making
The Society has collaborated with the Institute of Directors to create a paper entitled 'Scientists in the boardroom: enhancing evidence-based decision making'.
Published in November 2019, this DirectorsBrief sets out the case for greater involvement of scientists at the governance board table. It also provides guidance that will assist scientists and other researchers who wish to add governance skills to their technical expertise in order to prepare themselves for potential future governance roles.

Background
The idea for this paper came out of the 2018 Companions Forum and the initial scoping was led by a small group of Companions, including Steve Thompson, Rick Christie, John Raine, Jacqueline Rowarth, David Wratt and Len Cook. The Institute of Directors were then approached and agreed to produce and publish the paper, with input from Society Companions and Fellows. The Society is grateful to all those who contributed to the planning and execution of this project.
