Urban design has the potential to reshape cities, making Māori culture more visible, improving the safety and attractiveness of streetscapes, and promoting community health and wellbeing. But urban-design initiatives often face resistance from businesses and the wider public, despite research showing that, once constructed, they bring economic, socio-cultural, and environmental benefits. This research will engage with mātauranga Māori, community, and stakeholders to explore how urban initiatives are communicated and received, before investigating the best ways to achieve understanding and build a better future.
