Alex Schuddeboom
2024: Dr Alex Schuddeboom of Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha University of Canterbury will explore the impacts of climate change in Aotearoa New Zealand through the development of a stochastic weather generator
Current climate models require substantial computational resources and technical expertise to use. Dr Schuddeboom will develop a simpler, low-cost alternative that allows anyone to use publicly available climate-model data, and realistically simulate how random weather events are affected by changed conditions. Once the model is developed, it can be used to explore the impacts of climate change on regional extreme weather events anywhere in the world. This project is filling a clear need for both researchers and non-expert end users.
