Bailey Lissington
Bailey Lissington, who enjoys both science and sports has been selected to attend the Harry Messels International Science School in Sydney.
I'm 17 years old, and the deputy head boy of Timaru Boys' High School. I have an interest in electronics, which I'm using in an attempt to solve some of the environmental issues that New Zealand faces.
Last year I was selected as one of the ASB Bright Sparks finalists, with my project 'Automated Garden Watering System', which aimed to optimise the growth of plants, while reducing any wasted water. This year I'm working on scaling that system to a farm situation.
Aside from my love of science I play and referee Basketball, and I do a fair amount of distance running.
Next year I want to attend the University of Canterbury to study Mechatronics Engineering. I feel very grateful for the opportunity to attend the Harry Messels International Science School in Sydney.
