Andrew Moore

Andrew Moore, a year 13 at Scots College who hopes to have a career in the space industry has been selected to attend International Space Camp in Alabama.

My name is Andrew Moore. I am a year 13 student at Scots College, Wellington and I have been selected for the international space camp in Huntsville, Alabama. I study level 3 chemistry, physics, calculus, music and English. Mathematics and science have been a passion of mine for a long time, in particular astronomy and other areas involving space. More recently I have gained a growing interest in areas of astrophysics.

My interests outside of maths and science include cricket and music. I have been playing the piano for 10 years and the saxophone for 7. Music is such a great way to take a break from my heavy workload and commitments. I have also been working at a local restaurant as a kitchen hand for the past year or so.

At the moment my aspiration for the future would be to have a career in the space industry. This would begin by gaining a degree in either mechanical or aerospace engineering. My overarching goal is to become an astronaut one day.

I am so grateful to have been selected for a once in a lifetime opportunity like the international space camp. This is a huge first step for me to getting my foot in the door for a career in the space industry.
