Maayan Levey
Maayan studies four sciences at Hillcrest High School, Hamilton although her particular passion is competitive computer programming.
Hi, my name is Maayan Levy. For as long as I can remember, I've been drawn to science for its logical, methodical approach to answering questions and solving problems. Learning science has allowed me to understand the processes and mechanisms that shape observable events, which has given me a new perspective and a better understanding of the world around me.
Currently, I am studying four sciences as a Year 12 at Hillcrest High School in Hamilton, they are physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. Although I wasn't introduced to computer science as early on as the primary sciences, I quickly developed a passion for it, specifically in competitive programming. Competitive programming is, at heart, problem-solving, which is the reason I enjoy it so much. It provides mentally stimulating challenges with a basis of logical reasoning and critical thinking. It's this element of pure problem solving which first sparked my interest and now continues to drive me to improve my skills and knowledge.
Earlier this year, I was selected to represent New Zealand at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). I am immensely honoured and excited to be one of the four team members travelling to Tsukuba, Ibaraki in Japan to compete this September. This is an incredible opportunity, and I am very grateful to the Talented School Students Travel Award for supporting me to attend.
