Royal Society Te Apārangi is taking steps to try to minimise the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on its operations, while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our staff, the people and communities with whom we work. Consideration of residency status for Rutherford Foundation applicants
Due to COVID-19, Immigration New Zealand’s visa processing times may be delayed. This may affect the eligibility of some applicants for a Rutherford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship waiting to have their resident visa approved. Royal Society Te Apārangi will therefore delay the requirement of an applicant to provide an approved resident visa until the short-listing for interviews stage. Applicants with resident visa applications pending Immigration New Zealand approval will be allowed to submit an application should they wish to do so. However, an approved resident visa must be emailed to Rutherford.Foundation@royalsociety.org.nz no later than Wednesday 23 September 2020 for the application to be eligible for further consideration.
Extending postgraduate support (Marsden Fund and Rutherford Discovery Fellowships)
There have recently been policies and initiatives introduced by some host institutions, in response to how COVID-19 has disrupted postgraduate student progress, providing limited extensions to student support (in respective of time, stipend and fees). In accordance with any host institutions’ internal policies, Royal Society Te Apārangi allows for the redeployment of money held within a grant to be used to extend postgraduate students support for up to three months.
