Origins of northern New Zealand - New book

A new book, launched this week by Royal Society Te Apārangi President Richard Bedford, has been published by the Geoscience Society of New Zealand.

For the first time it tells the complete story of the origins of the rocks and landforms of northern New Zealand. It is written for a wide ranging audience, from students studying earth science at secondary school to their teachers through to professional scientists and the general public.

"Out of the Ocean into the Fire: History in the rocks, fossils and landforms of Auckland, Northland and Coromandel" by Bruce W Hayward FRSNZ (336 p, 700 photos, maps and illustrations) will keep readers enthralled for weeks.

It is available in bookstores and can be ordered online from Potton & Burton.

The Royal Society Te Apārangi Fleming Fund Award was used to fund the aerial photgraphy.
