Royal Society Te Apārangi recently held elections for positions on the Royal Society of New Zealand (Te Apārangi) Council and on the Academy Executive Committee (AEC), commencing 1 July 2019.
Council positions
President
Professor Wendy Larner FRSNZ commences the second year of her three year tenure.
Elected Councillor
Dr Tom Baker MRSNZ from the University of Auckland has been elected to the position representing Early Career Researchers for a three-year term.
Co-opted Council Members
Dr Dianne Sika Paotonu MRSNZ from the University of Otago, Wellington and Dr Russell Burton MRSNZ formerly of Scion, have been coopted for a one-year term.
Dr Moana Theodore MRSNZ from the University of Otago has been coopted for a further one-year term.
There are seven other Councillors who continue in multi-year terms.
Academy Executive Committee positions
Elected Domain Convenors
Professor Charlotte Macdonald FRSNZ from Victoria University of Wellington has been elected unopposed to the position of Convenor for the Humanities for a one-year term.
Professor David Schiel FRSNZ from the University of Canterbury has been elected unopposed as Convenor for Biological and Environmental Sciences for a one-year term.
Distinguished Professor Jane Harding FRSNZ from the University of Auckland has been elected unopposed to the position of Convenor for the Health and Medical Sciences for a two-year term.
Professor Geoff Chase FRSNZ from the University of Canterbury has been elected unopposed as Convenor for Technology, Applied Sciences and Engineering for a three-year term.
Professor Stephen May FRSNZ from the University of Auckland, has been elected unopposed to the position of Convenor for Social Sciences for a three-year term.
Distinguished Professor Gaven Martin FRSNZ from Massey University has been elected as Convenor – Physical, Earth and Mathematical Sciences for a two-year term
Professor Richard Blaikie FRSNZ, currently Vice President (Physical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Technology and Engineering) will continue as Chair of the Academy Executive Committee for a further year, but the Vice-President role is discontinued.
Dr Tony Conner CRSNZ FRSNZ will transfer from discontinued role of Vice-President (Biological and Life Sciences) to Deputy Chair of the Academy Executive Committee for two years.
