Aotearoa Kiwibots V5RC Nationals

Kiwibots foster creativity, innovation and inspiration among rangatahi (youth) across Aotearoa through robotics.

This year’s Kiwibots VEX NZ Nationals saw nearly 80 secondary-aged teams from throughout the motu (country) compete at Lynfield College in Tāmakimakaurau.

Teams vied for the National Championship title and a chance to compete at the VEX Robotics World Championship competition in the United States. The 2025 National champions are a team with members from Kristin School and Lynfield College.

The National Championship title wasn't the only opportunity up for grabs. Teams could be nominated for awards including Excellence, Innovation, Sportsmanship, Design, Build, Think, Create, Inspire, Energy and Amaze, recognising the various skills and attributes that rangatahi learn and demonstrate throughout their project and at the Nationals.

The Society’s Tara Satyanand (Tumu Tūhono Hapori Whānui | Director – External Engagement) and Dr Ben McVey (Kaiarotake Rangahau | Research Assessor), alongside 13 other judges from across the engineering and technology sectors, had the challenging role of selecting the award winners by interviewing teams, judging their robot design and marking the engineering notebooks which document the design, construction and iteration of their robot.

The Society's Eunique Kitiseni (Kaimanaaki Tūhononga Mātauranga | Education & Engagement Advisor) was part of the team supporting the organisers to make the day happen.
