The Academy is a member of Scholars at Risk, an international network of institutions and individuals whose mission it is to protect scholars and promote academic freedom. By arranging temporary academic positions at member universities and colleges, Scholars at Risk offers safety to scholars facing grave threats, so scholars’ ideas are not lost and they can keep working until conditions improve and they are able to return to their home countries.
In this section for submissions by our Fellows, Dr John Troughton FRSNZ explains his earlier work measuring 'light standards' in photosynthesis and plant growth with late New Zealand physicist Keith McCree, who founded the term Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR). He now issues a call to action to plant scientists to contribute to a revision of how to measure PAR.
