The MacDiarmid Institute’s 2019 Regional Innovation Showcase

Are you interested in learning more about how New Zealand can help with sustainability on a global scale?

The MacDiarmid Institute’s 2019 Regional Innovation Showcase will be coming to Napier on 12th August and this year’s theme is “NZ Innovation for Sustainability” – it will be looking at how materials science can offer a greener future for our planet and will look at topics such as our zero carbon future and a renewable economy, and how we can achieve these.

The speakers for our event are:
Dr Carla Meledandri and Dr Shane Telfer. Dr Meledandri is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago and a Principal Investigator in the MacDiarmid Institute. Her research involves the use of colloidal and surface chemistry techniques to develop new functional nanoscale materials for a broad range of applications, from dentistry to energy storage.

Dr Telfer is a Professor of Chemistry at Massey University and also a Principal Investigator in the MacDiarmid Institute. His work focuses on research into how metal organic frameworks, tiny crystal sponge-like materials, could be used to absorb and enrich carbon dioxide and eliminate nitrous oxide greenhouse gas emissions.

The event will take place on Monday 12th August at 6pm, in Lecture Theatre 1, Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT), Gloucester Street, Taradale. It will have a panel format with a presentation from our speakers and plenty of time for questions from the audience.

The series will also be visiting other locations around New Zealand, including Nelson, Tauranga, Wanaka and Queenstown, and these will be advertised in due course. For any queries, please contact MacD-Admin@vuw.ac.nz.
