Broadening our horizons: roadshow on changes to Fellowship and medal processes

National roadshow on proposed changes to processes on electing Fellows and awarding medals taking place during November.

Royal Society Te Apārangi is making some significant changes to its Fellowship process and also changes to some medal eligibility criteria with the goal of making them more accessible across the whole research sector, both in types of research organisation and in terms of the widest range of research fields (from humanities to engineering and IT), more responsive to addressing diversity and embracing Māori research.

Dr Andrew Cleland, Chief Executive, and Gill Sutherland, Director, Academy Operations, will explain these changes in a national roadshow with a series of one hour presentations of two types:

  • A presentation for current Fellows
  • A presentation for prospective nominators or nominees (current Fellows welcome to attend also)

Topics covered will include the following:

  • Seeking nominations for advancement of science, technology or the humanities, in addition to the distinction in research which has been the focus of the past
  • Widening who can nominate
  • Introducing a Search Panel for nominations
  • Reducing current evaluation panels from 13 to 6
  • Refinement to the selection process
  • Key changes to the medals and awards selection process
  • Fellowship Centenary Initiative 1919—2019

Who should attend?

We encourage current Fellows, officer bearers of our Constituent Organisations, senior researchers in universities, Crown Research Institutes, independent research organisations and ITPs, research managers, technologists and other interested people to attend.

As well as sharing our information we are very keen to get feedback from you.
