Research Assessor – Research Funding

We are seeking a Research Assessor to join the Research Funding team who has a relevant PhD qualification and strengths in humanities and/or social sciences.

Scope of the position

This position will involve providing support for, and operation of, a monitoring, reporting and evaluation system for research projects which have been assigned funding by the Royal Society Te Apārangi.  The role of Research Assessor also encompasses supporting and providing administrative services for the various funding opportunities on offer.  The team administers several Government research funds, including the Marsden Fund, the Rutherford Discovery Fellowships, the James Cook Research Fellowships, the Rutherford Foundation Trust, and the Catalyst Fund.  The Research Funding team works collectively and has responsibility to cover a broad range of disciplines: a wide range of science; social sciences; technology; and the humanities. You will enjoy working with New Zealand’s leading researchers, international experts, and international research organisations.

Key responsibilities

Your role will involve providing a full range of research assessment support including:

  • Maintaining a reporting and evaluation system for Research Fund contracts, over the life cycle of the projects.
  • Operating a monitoring system for Research Fund contracts that includes relationships with researchers through both email and site visits.
  • Providing support for the administration of the Research Fund bidding rounds.
  • Actively promoting and publicising the individual Research Funds

You will be able to demonstrate

  • A high level of technical expertise with a relevant PhD qualification – we are currently looking for a candidate with strength in the Humanities and/or Social Sciences;
  • Experience within a professional research environment;
  • Good communication skills both oral and written;
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand Research research funding landscape

The level of appointment will be according to experience and skills. You must be a New Zealand citizen or resident eligible to work in New Zealand.
