The Teachers in Industry Programme connects schools/kura with science or technology-intensive businesses in their community.

Teachers/kaiako logo-TIIspend time with participating businesses to gain industry experience, enabling them to develop business-relevant curriculum content for the classroom.

The aims of the programme are:

  • to support teachers/kaiako in ways to collaborate with, and leverage off, existing activities to enhance teacher/kaiako engagement with science and technology;
  • to facilitate links between schools and industry;
  • to foster curious minds by initiating, developing and extending current networks, connecting teachers/kaiako to local business/industry

Managed by the Royal Society of New Zealand, Teachers in Industry is a Ministry of Education initiative, operating in Franklin and Papakura for 2016.

It is part of the national strategic plan for science in society: A Nation of Curious Minds.
