Membership benefits

The Royal Society of New Zealand has recently changed its membership structure. The new membership structure, described below, is now in effect. Current Members may be interested in information about the transition to the new structure.

Benefits for all individual Members

All Members* of the Society receive a range of benefits including:

  • Provide valued support to the Royal Society of New Zealand
  • Access to the online member portal
  • Discount subscription rates to research journals published by the Royal Society of New Zealand
  • Invitations to regional events in your area
  • Invitations and early notification of lectures and other events and presentations
  • Links to over 100 world research institutions and organisations through Science Academies worldwide
  • Member-only e-newsletters
  • Free or discounted (at least 15%) tickets for the Society’s lectures, other events and presentations
  • Other occasional discounts and special offers (e.g. discount offers on books from selected New Zealand publishers)

Additional benefits for Associate Members

In addition to the benefits listed above, Associate Members of the Society (including those with Retired status) are entitled to:

  • Participate in a discipline-based Electoral College
  • Vote in election of Royal Society of New Zealand Council members
  • Receive a copy of the Society’s Annual Review, providing a snapshot of Society activities over the preceding year

Additional benefits for Professional Members

All Professional Members (including those with Retired or ECR status) of the Society, in addition to the benefits listed above:

  • May use the post-nominal initials MRSNZ
  • Will receive a lapel pin (membership badge) on joining
  • Receive notification of papers on policy and emerging issues
  • May have the opportunity to be considered for participation on expert panels on issues of public interest
  • Are eligible for a 25% discount (in place of the standard 15% discount, where offered) on tickets for the Society’s lectures, other events and presentations

Additional benefits for Professional Members – ECR

In addition to the benefits listed above, Professional Members with Early Career Researcher (ECR) status are entitled to:
